The Land We Are Standing On- January 14, 2026

Did you know that the land most of you are now standing on was once part of Quebec? That’s right. But for a few twists of fate, we’d all be speaking French and rooting for our Toronto Blue Jays. Did Squatters really once claim the land the library now stands on? Did you know that Chicago was supposed to be part of Wisconsin? What was the Indian Removal Act of 1830? How did the UP end up being part of Michigan? Was the Mequon Town/City Hall really built on a gravel pit, and why was it virtually forced to become a city in 1957? These questions and many more will be answered next Wednesday evening, January 14th, at 6pm at the Weyenberg Library. “The Land We Are Standing On” is the name of the presentation I will be giving at the library on Cedarburg Road in Mequon. The presentation is free, family friendly, and open to the public. The presenter will be yours truly, Bob Blazich, AKA “The Perfesser”. I hope to see you there!!
